A spark plug is a device for delivering electric current from an ignition system to the combustion chamber of a spark-ignition engine to ignite the compressed fuel/air mixture by an electric spark, while containing combustion pressure within the engine. Over time, the spark plug’s tip (electrode) wears out. The outer shell (insulation) may even crack or separate allowing the voltage to exit the plug where it is not intended. Misfire results, which causes the engine to run rough and lowers fuel economy.
